When Behindatthebar won the $250,000 Lexington Stakes (G2) at Keeneland on April 19, it marked another addition to the growing list of 3-year-old graded stakes performers of 2008 who received their early schooling under the guidance of Brent Fernung.
Fernung purchased Behindatthebar for $130,000 under the Journeyman Bloodstock banner at the 2006 Keeneland September Sale. The son of Forest Wildcat was then sold for $140,000 at the OBS June sale the next summer. The buyer was Michael Shustek, one of the current partners in the colt who has won 3 of 5 starts.
Behindatthebar, who is likely to run next in the Preakness (G1) – the second jewel of the Triple Crown to be run at Pimlico, joins top Kentucky Oaks contender Bsharpsonata and top colts Crown of Thorns and Famous Patriot among the 3-year-olds who have been broken and trained under the aegis of Brent Fernung.
