Jacks or Better Farm, Inc.’s Awesome Belle won her fourth straight race when she took the $75,000 Frances A. Genter S. by a neck Saturday at Calder (VIDEO). The 3-year-old filly by Awesome of Course is one of three multiple stakes winners this year by the Journeyman Stud stallion, including the undefeated champion Awesome Feather.

After stalking in second for the first half-mile, Awesome Belle gained control of the race down the backstretch and entered the stretch with a length and a half lead. Frolic’s Revenge closed the gap late, but could not catch the winner who hung on to win by a neck while running the one-mile distance in 1:40.82.

“No, I wasn’t surprised,” winning rider Fernando Jara said (of Sinister Brew’s strategy of denying Awesome Belle the early lead). “I thought someone might go, so the first quarter, my filly just relaxed a little bit and we started picking them up at the five-eighths.

“I was a little worried today because it was dirt and I didn’t want to use her too much,” Jara said. “But (trainer) Stanley (Gold) does an amazing job with his horses. They’re ready, and when you ask them, they give something to you, and luckily, at the end, I had just enough left to hang on.”

Awesome Belle comes from a family of stakes winners that includes Forego H. (G1) winner Midas Eyes, multiple Grade 3 winner Bayou's Lassie, and Bourbon n Blues.

With her win in the Frances A. Genter, Awesome Belle is now a six-time winner from 19 starts with $443,387 in earnings. She took the Judy's Red Shoes S., the Crystal Rail S., and the Three Ring S., all at Calder, prior to the Genter.
