Awesome Belle dominated her competition in the $300,000 Florida Stallion My Dear Girl S. on Oct. 15 at Calder Race Course, leading the 1 1/16 mile race the entire trip, and pulling away with ease to win by 7 1/2-lengths.
The 2-year-old daughter of Journeyman Stud stallion Awesome of Course could find herself on the way to Churchill Downs in three weeks for the Breeders' Cup, hoping to repeat the success of another daughter of Awesome of Course, Awesome Feather, who took the 2010 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) en route to championship honors.
Like Awesome Feather last year, Awesome Belle is owned and bred by Fred Brei's Jacks or Better Farm Inc. and trained by Stanley Gold. With the win, the filly is now 2-1-2 in six starts, earning $244,497.
"She kept finding trouble in her races (Florida Stallion Stakes) until today," Gold said. "We put the blinkers on her and she went to the front. No trouble today. We've always thought she was a good filly."
Awesome Belle was also making her two turn debut, and after passing with flying colors, the Breeders' Cup is now in sight.
"We'll see how she comes back, but if she comes back OK, we'll probably go,” said Brei, who also has the multiple stakes-winning 2-year-old filly Redbud Road for the newly created Juvenile Sprint.
Awesome Belle comes from the top-class mare Bayou Plans, who has already produced three other stakes winners: Bayou's Lassie, a multiple Grade 3 winner; Midas Eyes, winner of the Grade 1 Forego H.; and listed winner Bourbon N Blues. Bayou Plans earned over $300,000 in her career and won or placed in eight stakes.
