Black Diamond Cat got his second straight stakes win in Saturday’s $100,000 Montbrook S. at Gulfstream Park, coming on the heels of his dominating victory in the $100,000 Housebuster S. on Aug. 3.
Additionally, the 6-year-old by Wildcat Heir has won three stakes in his last four starts, making him the leading earner of 2013 for his sire. With $2.9 million in North American progeny earnings year to date, Wildcat Heir sits in second on the Florida General Sire list.
Black Diamond Cat was rated in seventh early before advancing along the rail leaving the backstretch and around the turn, eventually taking over the top spot leaving the final turn. Never threatened thereafter, he was hand-ridden by Jilver Chamafi to strike the line a 5 3/4-length winner.
“I was sitting and waiting for a hole to open. When I shook him, he just went and drew off. No problems,” Chamafi said.
“In the Housebuster, coming down to the wire, he still had a lot in him,” owner James Dodge said. “We thought he could get a mile under the right conditions, and it looks like he did pretty easy.”
The victory, worth $60,000 for Dodge’s Bluestone Thoroughbreds, LLC, boosted his career earnings to $462,454.
