Wildcat Heir's Black Diamond Cat sprinted away from his competitors at the head of the stretch en route to a 4 1/2-length win in the $55,000 Major Moran S. Aug. 6 at Calder Race Course (VIDEO
). This was the second straight added money win for the 4-year-old son of Wildcat Heir, coming on the heels of the $75,000 Turf Sprint on July 4, also at Calder.
Black Diamond Cat tussled with Peace at Dawn for the first half-mile, then put away that foe to finish the 6 1/2-furlongs on a sloppy track in 1:18.42. The win raised the bay's earnings to $187,684 with a career mark of 6-4-4 in 27 starts.
Bred in Florida by Mike Eckman and Mark and Debbie Ravenscraft, Black Diamond Cat is the first foal out of Sweet Glory, who comes from the same family as Holy Bull S. (G3) Grits'n Hard Toast and stakes winners Glory's Ghost and Rich in Glory.
Wildcat Heir, sire of six stakes winners this year, is the nation's fifth-ranked third crop sire and second on Florida's general sire list.
