Bwana Charlie's leading 2-year-old Comma to the Top is now a two-time stakes winner following his victory in the Grade 3 Generous S. at Hollywood Park on Nov. 27. The $100,000, one-mile Generous was part of the annual Turf Festival over the Thanksgiving weekend.
In the Generous, Comma to the Top quickly took charge out of the gate, shrugged off closest pursuer Divine Child to draw clear into the stretch, then held by 1 3/4-lengths
Comma to the Top made it four victories in a row in his initial try in a graded race. Owned by Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Kevin Tsujihara and trained by Peter Miller, Comma to the Top completed the mile in 1:34.77, pushing his earnings to $176,600.
Bred in Florida by Richard and Linda Thompson, he has won five of nine starts. The wins during his streak have been by a combined 18 lengths. Comma to the Top won the $100,000 Real Quiet S. over the Hollywood Cushion track three weeks prior to the Generous.
Miller, who bought Comma to the Top at the 2010 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale, indicated he will return to Cushion Track for his next appearance.
“He’s going to the CashCall Futurity (Dec. 18, a Grade 1 with a $750,000 purse), but turf is a nice option for next year and things like that,’’ said Miller. “I didn’t want to train him for six weeks up to the Futurity because he’s a big, heavy horse and he takes some training. The last race was pretty easy on him.
“This is a really good horse and he’s just starting to come around. He won real easy and I was really pleased with his performance today.’’
Bwana Charlie has four stakes horses on the year and is Florida's third-ranked second crop sire. He will be standing at Journeyman Stud in 2011 for a fee of $2,500
