After breaking his maiden at Fair Grounds on Jan. 26, My Pal Charlie came back in a $40,000 allowance race on Feb. 14 and made it two straight, winning by 1 1/2 lengths at the distance of one mile.
The 3-year-old son of Indian Charlie is a full-brother to Journeyman Stud stallion Bwana Charlie, whose first crop will run in 2009.
A $300,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland, My Pal Charlie was clocked in 1:38:66 and earned a solid 86 Beyer Speed Figure for his performance. The win netted owner B. Wayne Hughes $24,000, and the vast improving colt looks primed for a stakes debut in the near future.
