First-crop yearlings by Circular Quay proved popular on day 1 of the Aug. 23-25 OBS yearling sale. In the select session, a filly and a colt brought nine and six times the Journeyman stallion's $6,500 fee, respectively.
The filly, hip No. 161, went for $40,000 to John Mattine, agent from the consignment of Woodside Ranch, agent. The filly's family includes multiple Grade 3 winner Sir Greeley and Shaadi, a two-time Group 1 winner in Europe.
The colt, hip No. 143, was bought by Justin Casse for $27,000 and was consigned by The Acorn LLC, agent. He is out of the Grade 3 winner Chispiski, who has already produced a multiple graded stakes placed colt in Chipshot.
