Reporting Star took to Calder's turf with plenty of gusto, winning his Oct. 17 debut by 7 1/2-lengths. Sired by Circular Quay, Florida's leading first-crop sire, Reporting Star was bred in Florida by his owner Gilber G. Campbell.

Reporting Star got caught in a duel for the first six furlongs of the one mile contest on the yielding turf, but when the field straightened for home, he kicked clear in a big way to win under wraps.

Circular Quay's progeny have had a particularly rewarding past few week. In addition to Reporting Star, he had another maiden winner in Dublin's Diamond on Oct. 12, and the following day got his first stakes winner when Verso a Verso captured the $300,000 Florida Stallion My Dear Girl S.

Overall, Circular Quay has seven winners with earnings of more than $320,000.
