The OBS fall mixed sale marked the first-ever auction to include foals by multiple graded stakes winner Cowtown Cat. Hip 223, a weanling colt by the Journeyman stallion, was the top-priced weanling of the sale, when he sold for $70,000, best of all weanlings and fifth highest price of day one of the Oct. 19-20 sale at the central Florida auction house.
The chestnut colt, born Feb. 7, 2010, was consigned by Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck's Summerfield, agent and purchased by Windridge Farm.
The colt is out of the unraced mare She Did Tell, who is the dam of Thank U Philippe, winner of the OBS Sophomore S. and second in the Grade 2 Nashua S. She Did Tell is a daughter of She Won't Tell, a full sister to 1978 Triple Crown champion Affirmed.
The 6-year-old Cowtown Cat captured the Illinois Derby (G2) and Gotham S. (G3) on the Kentucky Derby Trail in 2007. He was a $1.5 million sale-topping 2-year-old at Barrett’s the year prior, and retired with earnings of $562,228.
