When Journeyman Bloodstock’s Brent Fernung was in his final month as farm manager at CloverLeaf Farms, he advised owner John Sykes not to sell a Pulpit filly named Bsharpsonata at public auction, as had been scheduled.
Fernung felt the filly showed such great promise she could provide CloverLeaf with an exciting time at the racetrack, so Sykes decided to keep Bsharpsonata and race her himself.
When Bsharpsonata captured Gulfstream Park's Forward Gal Stakes (G2) on Feb. 9, it marked the filly's fifth victory in eight starts on dirt and turf, and third in a row. Only her maiden score at Delaware Park back in July of 2007 didn't come in a stakes, and she's earned $283,410.
The Forward Gal score was her biggest yet, as she showed her versatility to win the 7-furlong sprint in a quick 1:23.09. Her pair of stakes victories in her starts just prior to the Forward Gal were around two turns on the turf.
Bsharpsonata earned a 90 Beyer Speed Figure in a performance that instantly vaulted the long-striding filly onto the Kentucky Oaks trail.
