Circular Quay got his fifth winner from his first crop on Aug. 16, lifting the Journeyman Stud stallion to co-leading Freshman Sire of winners in Florida. The latest winner,Verso a Verso, was bred by in Florida by Brent and Crystal Fernung in partnership with Dr. Phil Matthews.
A first-time starter, Verso a Verso faced nine other 2-year-old fillies going 5 1/2-furlongs. She proved too much for the competition with a powerful final furlong, making up a three length deficit and ultimately pulling away to a 2 3/4-length victory.
Verso a Verso is one of four winners out of Folk Art, whose dam Squan Song won nearly $900,000 and 15 stakes over four seasons of racing. The Fernungs sold Verso a Verso at the April OBS 2-year-old sale, where she was bought by her current owner Juan Landaeta.
