Hear No Evil, a Leading Freshman Sire with such top 2-year-olds as three-time stakes winner Jackson Bend, has moved to Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala for the 2010 breeding season.

A multiple stakes winner of nearly $600,000 on the racetrack, Hear No Evil – by Carson City – has already enjoyed success at stud with a limited first crop of runners in 2009, hovering near the top of the Freshman Sire List in Florida. He is the sire of Florida’s top 2-year-old Jackson Bend, winner of four straight including stakes victories in his last three. Jackson Bend defeated multiple Grade 2 winner D’Funnybone in the Frank Gomez Memorial S. before capturing the first two legs of the Florida Stallion Series – the Dr. Fager S. and Affirmed S. He will go for the sweep on Oct. 17th in the $400,000 In Reality S. at Calder.

Hear No Evil is also the sire of another stakes-performing 2-year-old, Hear Ye Hear Ye, who broke his maiden at Calder by 7 ¼ lengths with a 94 Beyer. From just 11 2-year-olds in his debut crop, Hear No Evil has already sired seven winners and has progeny earnings of $295,004 to date. He currently ranks third among Freshman Sires in Florida – as well as twelfth in North America – despite having significantly less runners than the majority of first-crop sires.

“Hear No Evil is off to a tremendous start,” said Brent Fernung. “He has gotten a number of quality runners from a small first crop. Sons of Carson City are popping up all over the leading sires lists. I appreciate the opportunity that Fred Brei is giving us.”

Fred Brei’s Jacks or Better Farm bred and raced Hear No Evil, and also bred and race both Jackson Bend and Hear Ye Hear Ye.

“We look forward to working with Journeyman Stud to build upon the success Hear No Evil has already achieved,” said Brei. “Journeyman has a reputation as an energetic operation and I anticipate them aggressively promoting the horse.”

Hear No Evil is out of the multiple stake-producing Cox’s Ridge mare Nizy. His 2010 fee will be announced at a later date.
