Jackson Bend, a colt from the first crop of Hear No Evil, was made the sixth choice on the morning line at 12-1 when he drew post No. 6 for Saturday's $1 million Preakness S. (G1) - the second leg of the Triple Crown May 15 at Pimlico.

Trained by Nick Zito, the chestnut colt had an eventful trip in the Derby in his last start when finishing a troubled twelfth. But Jackson Bend figures to fare better with the smaller field at Pimlico. He certainly showed no ill effects from the Run for the Roses after working a bullet half-mile in :46 3/5 seconds at Churchill Downs on May 10.

Zito was understandably pleased with the move. “It was really quick, but the good thing about it is that he did it on his own,” Zito said. “Stacy (exercise rider Stacy Prior) was not asking him at all.”

The Derby was the first time in 10 career starts that Jackson Bend finished worse than second. The classy Florida-bred has earned $707,820 for owners Robert LaPenta and Fred Brei.
