Manicero has turned into a winning machine for his sire Mass Media. The newly-turned 3-year-old kicked off 2011 with a win in the $75,000 Pasco S. on Jan. 15 at Tampa Bay Downs. This was the third straight stakes win, and fourth overall, for Manicero. He previously won the $70,000 Inaugural S. on Dec. 26, also at Tampa, and the $125,000 Jack Price Juvenile S. on Nov. 13.

), Manicero vied for the lead with longshot Brock N Rock for the first half-mile, put away that foe to open up a two length lead in midstretch, and then was kept to task to win by a half length in a time of 1:24.58. The 83 Beyer Speed Figure tied his career best.
Conditioner Leo Azpurua, Jr. said of his trainee’s victory, “The horse has a lot of heart. He (jockey Luis Saez) told me that he took Manicero off of the rail a little bit where if was a little firmer, and he just went on with it.” Azpurua indicated that he hoped to make Grade 3, $225,000 Sam F. Davis S. on Feb. 12, also at Tampa Bay Downs, as the next start for Manicero.
Azpurua trains Manicero for his father, Leo, Sr. The dark bay or brown colt's record now stands at 5-4-0-0 , with earnings of $189,008 for the father-son team.
Manicero was bred in Florida by Robert Sanson. Manicero's dam, Ritzy Blitz, has six winners to date, including listed stakes horses Delirio and Puerto Plata.
Mass Media finished 2010 as Florida's leading freshman sire of stakes winners and stakes horses, and the third leading overall freshman sire in the Sunshine State.
