Beso Grande, a 2-year-old filly by Mass Media, closed strongly to take a seven furlong maiden special weight race at Calder on Aug. 8. Beso Grande marked the fifth winner for her sire, who's first crop has made quite an impression for the Journeyman Stud sire.
Beso Grande debuted with a good third going 4 1/2-furlongs at Calder on July 17. Stretching out to the longer distance seemed to suit the bay filly, who settled in fifth after a quarter mile, went four wide around the turn, and was still four lengths back just a furlong from the wire before powering home late to win by three parts of a length as the 4-5 favorite over the sloppy main track.
Mass Media already has five winners from just 12 starters, the highest percentage among Florida's first-crop sires.
Beso Grande has earned $28,087 for her owner Half Hollow Racing. She is trained by Stephen DiMauro.
