With 20% stakes horses from starters, Mass Media reigns as Florida’s Leading First Crop Sire by percentage of stakes horses.

The son of Touch Gold out of Sultry Allure, by Forty Niner, was one of the fastest horses of his generation, and has made a very fast start to his stud career. Mass Media has sired eight winners, three seconds and three stakes horses from 15 starters, with progeny earnings in excess of $252,000. Among all U.S. freshman sires with more than five starters, Mass Media ranks first in Florida and third in the nation by percentage of stakes horses from starters.

Mass Media has sired a stakes winner, two $100,000 stakes-placed juveniles, and five other winners on both dirt and all-weather surfaces. He sired his eighth winner on Sept. 26, when Gutterball Mary rolled wire-to-wire in a 5 ½-furlong test over the dirt.

The Journeyman stallion continues the strong performance by young sires from Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Ocala-based stallion station. In 2009, Journeyman placed four stallions among the top five active Florida freshman, including top-ranked Wildcat Heir, who set a North American record with 39 two-year-old winners from his inaugural crop.

Mass Media stood the 2010 season at Journeyman Stud for $2,000.
