Cowtown Cat racked up another winner from his first crop on Sept. 26 when Model Citizen rolled to a 6 1/2-length win over the Calder turf course. The 2-year-old colt is the eighth winner for his sire, tops among all Florida freshman sires. Cowtown Cat's progeny have earned in excess of $200,000 this year, nearly double any other Florida first year sire.
Model Citizen took the 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight contest with a powerful move coming into the stretch, coming from second to quickly open up by three lengths before cruising to the win.
The gray or roan juvenile is owned by WinStar Farm and was bred in Florida by Philip and Karen Matthews. WinStar bought Model Citizen at the OBS Select 2-year-old sale in March, going to $100,000 to sign the ticket.
Model Citizen is out of Leggy Super Model, dam of Hillsborough S. (G3) winner Rizzi Girl, and Papi Chullo, winner of Belmont Park's Birdstone S. and second in the Grade 3 Sham S. at Santa Anita.
