Hip 260, a colt, sold for $90,000 to
West Point Thoroughbreds
Buyers jumped at the chance to buy a pair of colts from the first-crop sire Circular Quay offered during the first day of the April 23-26 OBS Select 2-year-old sale. Millionaire Circular Quay, a graded stakes winner at 2, 3, and 4, is standing this year at Journeyman Stud for $6,500.
Selling for $90,000 and $85,000, the colts brought more than 13x Circular Quay's stud fee. Hip No. 260, consigned by Casse Sales, brought the higher price from popular owner West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. The dark bay colt is out of Grade 3 winner Chipski, who has already produced the stakes-winning colt Chipshot.
Just a few moments later, hip No. 270 came through the ring from the Costanzo Sales consignment. The hammer fell after a bid of $85,000 from Klaravich Stable. The chestnut colt is the second foal out of the unraced mare City of Dreams, whose first foal is the stakes-placed Dream of Atlantis.
