John Johny Jak rallied to win the $50,000 Carterista S. at Gulfstream Park on April 24, giving his sire Wildcat Heir his second new stakes winner in two days. Wildcat Marie took the Grade 3 Whimsical S. at Woodbine the previous day.

John Johny Jak had to battle the length of the stretch to get the job done in the Carterista. The 4-year-old colt was in second for the first six furlongs, then put away early pacesetter Marquet Cat about a furlong from the wire, and held off the late charge of Unbridled Heat to win by a nose in 1:34.26.

The Carterista was the first stakes win for Florida bred John Johny Jak. He is 5-3-1 in 17 starts and raised his earnings to $121,163 with the $30,000 payday. He is owned by Doble Jak Investments LLC and was purchased out of the OBS April 2-year-old sale in 2009.

Wildcat Heir is currently ranked fourth among the nation's third crop sires and third on the Florida general sire list. He was the leading Florida sire and nation's second crop sire of 2010.
