After the 3-day yearling sale at OBS on Aug. 23-25, Journeyman Stud's Cowtown Cat had 14 yearlings from his first crop go through the sales ring for an average of nearly five times his $4,000 stud fee.
Cowtown Cat, who won the Illinois Derby (G2) and Gotham S. (G3), already had a sales topper at OBS last October, with a weanling colt bringing $70,000.
This OBS sale featured a colt and a filly that both sold for $40,000 and another colt that went for $35,000. The filly, hip No. 451, went to Elite Bloodstock from the consignment of Timber Creek, agent., while the $40,000 colt, hip No. 228, was consigned by Beth Bayer, agent and bought by W. D. North Thoroughbreds.
The $35,000 colt, hip No. 7, was also consigned by Timber Creek and purchased by Trackside Farm, agent. The colt is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Hot Flame, who set a track record for five furlongs at Golden Gate Fields at age two.
