Multiple stakes winner Black Diamond Cat made his first win of the year a blacktype victory, taking the $75,000 Ponche Stakes at Calder on June 8th.

The 6-year-old son of Wildcat Heir out of Sweet Glory, by Miswaki, was winning his third career stakes, and he did so with a flourish. Content to stalk the pace early, Black Diamond Cat eased out four wide, then took command at the eighth pole, drawing clear by 1 3/4 lengths at the wire. Final time for six furlongs on the main track was 1:10.28.

Black Diamond Cat was bred in Florida by Mike Eckman, Mark Ravenscraft and Debbie Ravenscraft, and races for Bluegrass Thoroughbreds LLC. He has amassed career earnings of $323,954, off a record of 47-7-11-5 under trainer Larry Bates.

Champion Sire Wildcat Heir has ranked either first or second among all Florida Sires every year at stud. This season he has over $1.5 million in progeny earnings, including five stakes horses.
