Three-time Grade 1 winner Sweet Return has moved to Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala, FL for the 2009 breeding season.

Owned and campaigned by John Brunetti’s Red Oak Stable, Sweet Return possessed speed, class and durability in his illustrious racing career, which comprised a body of work that ranks among some of the most accomplished handicap horses in recent years. Racing against top-class competition in six years of training, he won the Hollywood Derby (G1) at 3, the Kilroe Mile (G2) at 4 over that year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Singletary, and the Eddie Read (G1) and Whittingham Memorial (G1) at 5. Sweet Return, an earner of more than $1.8 million, was a seven-time stakes winner and placed in multiple other top graded stakes around the country.

“We’re excited to welcome such a top-class miler as Sweet Return to Journeyman,” said Brent Fernung. “He displayed a rare combination of longevity and class, and he retired sound. With the advent of the synthetic tracks, as well as the increasing soundness concerns our sport faces, Sweet Return is a much-needed compliment to the Florida breeding market.” A fee will be announced at a later date.
