Trinniberg stamps himself as one of the
nation's top 3yo sprinters
Trinniberg turned in a powerhouse performance in the March 10 Swale S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park, going right to the front and drawing off to a six length win in the seven furlong contest (VIDEO
). Already the leading lifetime earner for his sire Teuflesberg, the 3-year-old colt stopped the timer in an excellent 1:21.69, little more than a second off the track record.
Trained by Bisnath Parboo, Trinniberg was making his first start since the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint at Churchill Downs in early November.
“We sent him to the farm and gave him time off (after the Breeders' Cup), said Parboo. “We’ve been planning for some time to take the blinkers off and I think it made a big difference. He was really relaxed out there. At some point we’ll probably try him going longer, but I really don’t have anything planned for him right now.”
“This horse (Trinniberg) was a speed ball last year which is why they took the blinkers off,” said winning rider Willie Martinez. “He’s going to be a horse to watch this year. He’ll definitely be able to stretch out.”
A $21,000 OBS April 2-year-old purchase, Trinniberg won his career debut at Calder before finishing second in the Hopeful S. (G2) at Saratoga and Nashua Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park in the fall.
