Ostourah, a full sister to multiple graded-stakes winner Trinniberg, pulled away to a 1 3/4-length victory in her debut Sept. 26 at Belmont Park. The 2-year-old filly, by Teuflesberg, was a $450,000 buy at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale in May. The winner put Teuflesberg's progeny earnings in 2012 just under $1 million, ranking him in the top 20 on the Second Crop sire list.
Trainer Chad Brown decided to debut the dark bay filly on the Belmont turf, and after spending the first half-mile in second behind the pacesetter Jane of All Trades, Ostourah fought her way to the lead at the eighth pole, then drew off in the final furlong to get the six furlongs in 1:08.52 on the firm turf.
Owned by Abdullah Saeed Almaddah, Ostourah was bred in Kentucky by J M Stables, Inc. The filly's 3-year-old sibling Trinniberg won the Woody Stephens S. (G2), Bay Shore S. (G3) and Swale S. (G3) this year. Their dam Bella Dorato was stakes placed as a 2-year-old.
