Leading Freshman & First-Crop Sire Wildcat Heir not only got his seventh maiden special weight-winning 2-year-old of the season on June 20th, he also became the sire of another good-looking winner – perhaps the most impressive to date. First-time starter Witer Wish opened eyes at Calder with a professional 8 ¼-length romp, signaling the start of a bright future for the bay colt.
Witer Wish, under Manoel Cruz, broke running and stalked the early leaders in close range while racing wide. Despite the wide trip, he moved to the lead with ease turning for home and flashed some serious talent in the stretch of the 5 ½-furlong event, drawing well clear to hit the wire all alone in 1:06.27 over a fast track. The performance earned the colt an 80 Beyer Speed Figure.
Trained by Jose Garoffalo, Witer Wish earned $21,200 for owner All Starts Racing Stable Corp. The colt was bred in Florida by Ponder Hill, Inc. from the Tactical Advantage mare Laurica.
Through June 20th, Wildcat Heir continues to lead all sires in North America with juvenile earnings of $207,573, which also gives him a commanding lead among Freshman Sires. The Grade 1-winning son of Forest Wildcat has now won with half of his starters, as seven of 14 2-year-olds have won maiden special weight heats at several top racetracks across North America.
