Depeche Chat got his first career stakes win when he romped to a 6 1/2-length score in the $75,000 Franklin-Simpson Mile S. Sept. 8 at Kentucky Downs (VIDEO). The 4-year-old by Wildcat Heir is the sixth stakes winner of the year for his sire, who leads the Florida General Sire list with $3,434,066 in progeny earnings.

The Kentucky Downs turf course, with it's European styling and three furlongs homestretch, presents a unique challenge. Depeche Chat adpated well, stalking the pace in second around the sweeping turn, then taking over coming into the stretch. He quickly opened up by three lengths under Brian Hernandez Jr., who has had plenty of success over the course. He extended his lead in the final furlong to win comfortably.

Depeche Chat, bred in Florida by Michelle Redding, is now 4-3-2 in 14 starts. He has earned $160,787 for Wind River Stables, who purchased the chestnut for $85,000 at the OBS 2010 Horses of Racing Age sale.
