Shigeru Acerola, a 2-year-old son of Wildcat Heir, won his first career stakes, in just his fourth lifetime start, Dec. 17 at Japan's Kokura racetrack. Wildcat Heir is Florida's leading sire of 2011 in earnings, stakes wins, and stakes winners. He is also the nation's fourth-ranked sire on the third-crop sire list.

Bred in Florida by the partnership of Mr. and Mrs. Don Love and Briggs/Cromartie, Shigeru Acerola sold to his Japanese connections for $57,000 at the 2011 Barretts March 2-year-old in training sale.

Shigeru Acerola posted his second straight win on turf , scoring by 3 lengths while leading the six furlong contest gate to wire and getting the distance in a very quick 1:08.5. He has now earned $221,520 for his owner S. Morinaka.
