The fittingly-named 2-year-old colt Sheer Talent showed he was worthy of his monicker in his debut when the son of Wildcat Heir, who was bred and raised by Journeyman Stud's owners Brent and Crystal Fernung, battled his way to a half-length win July 30 at Del Mar.

Facing a field of nine other juveniles, Sheer Talent stalked the pace in the two-path at the outset of the six furlong race for maiden special weight types. Going three wide as he straightened into the lane, he wore down Cloudhopper in the late stages to get the distance in 1:10.68 on the Polytrack.

Sheer Talent is the first foal out of Malpractice M. D., who is a half-sister to Remington Park Derby (G3) winner Temperence Time. Journeyman Bloodstock consigned and sold Sheer Talent in April for $55,000 at the OBS Spring sale.

Wildcat Heir is Florida's second leading sire with progeny earnings of more than $2.5 million. He also leads all Sunshine State sires with 61 winners on the year.
