Jewel of a Cat is now a two-time stakes winner after the 3-year-old filly by Wildcat Heir scored a half-length victory in the $100,000 Coronation Cup Monday at Saratoga.

Jewel of a Cat, who won the $75,000 Stormy Blues S. at Pimlico in May, is one of three stakes winners this year for Wildcat Heir, who is currently fourth on the 2013 Florida General Sire list.

In the 5 1/2-furlong Coronation, Jewel of the Cat broke alertly, but then settled back in fourth some five lengths off a scorching pace of :21.37 for the quarter mile. Chris DeCarlo began to easy his mount closer around the turn, came some four wide into the stretch, eventually wearing down Magical Moon in the final 50 yards to stop the timer in 1:01.81 on the firm turf.

Owned by J and J Stables and GSP Racing Stable, Jewel of the Cat is an excellent 4-2-1 in eight starts, earning $189,000. She was purchased for $40,000 by her trainer Ben Perkins at the 2012 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale.
