Hip 259, an attractive filly by the nation’s Leading Freshman Sire Wildcat Heir, was the first offering by her red-hot sire in the Open portion of the OBS August Yearling Sale August 24-27, and she showed the momentum created by Wildcat Heir by bringing $100,000 – the highest price fetched on Day 2 of the sale.
Selling from the consignment of Woodside Ranch as agent, the chestnut filly reached the six-figure mark on the final bid of buyer Repole Stable. A registered New York-bred, she is out of the Afleet mare Afleet Closer and is a half-sister to the top New York-based sprinter Driven by Success.
“She’s a beautiful filly,” said Jim Crupi, who signed the ticket on behalf of Repole Stable. “Being by Wildcat Heir definitely didn’t hurt. The sire is doing well, and the owners really like the female side.”
Wildcat Heir is the No. 1 First-Crop Sire in North America with 15 2-year-old winners to date. The brilliant Grade 1-winning son of the late Forest Wildcat already has progeny earnings of $427,049. He stood in 2009 for $6,500 at Journeyman.
