A 15 ½-length debut winner is very rare – but not a world record. What is a world record are 38 2-year-old winners from the first crop of a Freshman Sire.

Saturday, Dec. 12th, the 2-year-old colt Wildcat Frankie was the aforementioned debut winner, which gave his sire Wildcat Heir a tie for the world record of juvenile winners ever sired by a Freshman Sire with 19 days left in 2009. For Wildcat Heir – Florida’s Leading Freshman Sire – the ultra-impressive maiden winner was a fitting way for the brilliant Grade 1 winner by Forest Wildcat to grab a share of history. For now, he ties Chapel Royal at 38 with the number 40 clearly in sight.

Wildcat Frankie becomes just the latest flashy debut winner by Wildcat Heir that appears to have a bright future on the racetrack. The bay colt disposed of eight 2-year-olds to jog home the easiest of winners, stopping the clock in a crisp 1:04.90 for 5 ½ furlongs in a $23,700 maiden special weight race at Calder. The performance was good enough to earn him a gaudy 95 Beyer Speed Figure.

Trained by James Hatchett, Wildcat Frankie earned $16,200 for his grand debut for owner Monarch Stables, Inc. Steve Tucker and Lynne Boutte bred the colt in Florida from the Bet Big mare Talented Bet.

Wildcat Heir is not only Florida’s Leading Freshman Sire, he is also a Top 5 Freshman Sire nationally with earnings surpassing $1.1 million to date.
