Wildcat Marie was first at every call in the $150,000 Whimsical S. (G3) April 23 at Woodbine (VIDEO
), winning the six furlong sprint in a crisp 1:09.11 over the synthetic surface at the Canadian track. This was the first career stakes start an win for the daughter of Wildcat Heir.
Wildcat Heir is currently ranked fourth among the nation's third crop sires and third on the Florida general sire list. He was the leading Florida sire and nation's second crop sire of 2010.
The 4-year-old Florida bred has interestingly made all ten of her lifetime starts at Woodbine. She has an obvious affinity for the track, winning six times and finishing third on the other four occasions.
In the Whimsical, Wildcat Marie went to the lead from the rail, but had plenty of pressure early, with longshot Shukriya sitting just off her flank. The eventual winner began to pull clear nearing the stretch, going up a couple of lengths, then running on to win by 1 1/4-lengths.
Owned by Joseph Baldesarra and partners, Wildcat Marie has lifetime earnings of $263,053.
Cloverdale Farms II and Brent Fernung, president of Journeyman, bred Wildcat Marie, who is out of the Wild Rush mare in Miss Rachel Marie. The chestnut filly sold for $50,000 at the Ocala Breeders 2-year-old sale in April, 2009.
