Freshman sire Mass Media had a pair of winners Nov. 19-20, including repeat winner Luna Grande. The Journeyman Stud first-crop stallion ranks fourth on this year's Florida freshman sire list. He now has a total of 11 winners, led by the impressive colt Manicero, who has won his last two starts by a combined 15 1/2 lengths, including the Jack Price Juvenile S. by 8 1/4 lengths.
At Calder on Nov. 20, the filly Luna Grande looked like a budding star with a 5 3/4-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong dash over the main track. Last of seven with a quarter mile to go, the dark bay/brown filly exploded in the stretch to run away from the field.
Luna Grande was bred in Florida by Joel Carino and is owned by Mauricio Fuentes. She is now 2-3-0 in eight starts with $64,326 in earnings.
The previous day at Mountaineer, The Fourth Estate went gate to wire in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight sprint to win going away by 3 1/4-lengths. The chestnut was also bred in Florida, by Clare Silva. He is one of six winners out of My Oasis.
